Philadelphia is the +150 favorite, followed by the Yankees (+250), Rays (+300), Giants (+700), Twins (+800), Rangers (+1000), Braves (+1200) and Reds (+1200).
Texas Rangers at Tampa Bay Rays - Wednesday 1:37 pm ET
Tampa is a -155 series favorite and -130 for Game 1.
The pitching matchup is Tampa Bay’s David Price (19-6, 2.72 ERA) against Texas’ Cliff Lee (12-9, 3.18 ERA).
This is a fantastic pitchers duel. Tampa Bay (96-66) made the World Series two years ago, only to lose 4-1 in games to Philly. The Rays have home field advantage throughout the AL Playoffs this year. Texas (90-72) clinched the West Division early, but is the only current MLB franchise never to win a playoff series.
Cincinnati Reds at Philadelphia Phillies - Wednesday 5:07 pm ET
Philadelphia is a -280 series favorite and -210 for Game 1.
The pitching matchup is Philly’s Roy Halladay (22-10, 2.44 ERA) against Cincinnati’s Edinson Volquez (4-3, 4.31 ERA).
Cincinnati (91-71) was a surprise winner over St. Louis in the NL Central as the Cardinals were the heavy preseason favorite. No team is hotter than Philadelphia (97-65). They’re 49-19 since July 21 and looking for their third straight World Series appearance.
New York Yankees at Minnesota Twins - Wednesday 8:37 pm ET
New York is a -180 series favorite and -135 for Game 1.
The pitching matchup is New York’s CC Sabathia (21-7, 3.18 ERA) against Minnesota’s Francisco Liriano (14-10, 3.62 ERA).
New York (95-67) finished a game ahead of Minnesota (94-68) record-wise, but they’re the wild-card team on the road. The Yanks eliminated Minny in the 2003, 2004 and 2009 playoffs and first baseman Justin Morneau (concussion) is out of the playoffs. Still, this is a scrappier Twins team than in previous years.
Atlanta Braves at San Francisco Giants - Thursday 9:37 pm ET
San Francisco is a -160 series favorite and -150 for Game 1.
The pitching matchup is Atlanta’s Derek Lowe (16-12, 3.18 ERA) against San Francisco’s Tim Lincecum (16-10, 3.43 ERA).
Both Atlanta (91-71) and San Francisco (92-70) had major trouble securing a playoff spot the last weekend. San Francisco needed a Sunday win over San Diego after losing the first two series games. Atlanta needed a Sunday win over Philadelphia. Manager Bobby Cox made the playoffs in his final season via the wild-card.
